ATTENDANCE: If your child is absent on a ski day, please email administration@bssd72.org and aromine@bssd72.org as early as possible.

Ski Days are a school health enhancement activity and a privilege. If your child does not ski with school groups, they will be marked as “UV” unexcused but verified absence. These absences will count against the school’s 10 day policy absence. If this is abused, we will lose ski days all together. If your child cannot ski due to injury or for any other reason, the student must stay home and will not be counted absent. Please email these absence(s) in advance.

GEAR: Please ensure your students' Sky Card (aka ski pass) is in the pocket of their ski jacket. All students must wear a helmet when skiing on ski days. Please make sure all of your student’s equipment is marked with their Name/Grade. We have blue tape to put names on equipment if needed. Rentals are provided free, thanks to Big Sky Resort, for those who indicated the need on the permission form. Students who need rentals will pick these up first thing when arriving at the mountain and return them at the end of day. The school is not responsible for lost, misplaced or stolen equipment.

Students should come to school with their winter gear, ski boots and helmets on. Students who ride the bus to school will leave their equipment on the bus. Car riders, K-3 should drop their gear in front of the elementary in the snow; 4K, 4-5 drop gear in the back of the elementary in the snow.

Students in grades 4K-5 are not allowed to have their phones with them on the mountain. This is a school activity and the same rules apply as if they were at school. All communication will be relayed by calling the school. Students in grades 6-8 are allowed to have their phones with them on the mountain. All communication should still be emailed to aromine@bssd72.org as well.

Students are asked to bring disposable sack lunches (including a disposable drink) labeled with their Name/Grade. Students will be encouraged to put leftover snacks in their pockets for afternoon snacking. Middle school students will not be allowed to purchase food items at the resort or eat from the buffet. LPHS students are allowed to purchase lunch items on the mountain as they will be having lunch on their own.

SKI GROUPS: Students grades 4K-5 are grouped by skill level and each group will ski (no snowboarding) with an instructor assigned by the Resort and paid for by the PTO. Students grades 6-8 are grouped by skill level and each group will ski or snowboard (student choice was indicated on permission slip). In the morning, BSSD staff checks students in and gathers them into their ski groups with the Resort staff. Each week the group lists are updated between the school and the Resort to reflect skiers ability and group need. Lone Peak High School students will free ski/snowboard with friends unless a lesson was requested. All LPHS students are to be skiing/snowboarding at the mountain by 9:45 a.m. The LPHS students taking a lesson will meet at the top of the stairs by ski school after picking up any needed rental gear. All LPHS students taking lessons need to arrive by 9:30 a.m. Please be prompt and ensure your student checks in with BSSD staff. All LPHS students needing a day pass will pick up their pass at the top of the stairs by ski school between 9:30 -9:45 a.m. All day passes will need to be returned to BSSD staff at 2:35 p.m. at the top of the stairs by ski school. There is no formal check in, but if any student needs assistance at any point during the day, there will be a BSSD staff member at all times in Vista Hall to assist.

MEETING AT THE MOUNTAIN: If your student is not taking the bus from school, they meet their group at the top of the stairs to the right of Yeti Dogs at 9:30 a.m. and check-in with a BSSD staff member. Please be prompt and wait with your student until you have checked them in with BSSD staff. You will drop your student’s disposable labeled lunch there.

LIFT BUDDIES: Required for children under 6 years old. Many 4K and kindergarten parents volunteer to be lift buddies along with BSSD staff. A separate email will be going out with specific information to those parents who volunteered to be lift buddies on the permission form.

YSL/BSSEF/Freeride: If your student is signed up for one of these ski teams and is in grades 6-8, they must ski with their ski team coach. You should have received a participation confirmation email for these programs from me earlier in the week. Parents are responsible for transportation to/from the mountain to meet their coach for practice which starts and ends later than the school lessons. Attendance will be marked as “NS” non-sanctioned policy absence in accordance with the program. Non-sanctioned policy absences do not count against our 10 day policy absences.

END OF DAY: All Grade 4K-8 students (and any LPHS students riding the bus) will check in at the buses which will be parked in front of the Summit Hotel. *See attached photo of bus location. At 2:30 pm, instructors bring groups down the mountain to the BSSD staff members. Parents picking up on the mountain, please arrive by 2:35 p.m. and check your students out from BSSD staff members at the buses. NO 6-8 grade students will be allowed to continue skiing on their own. A parent/guardian must be physically at the busses to check them out or they will be put on the bus back to school. Once attendance is taken and all ski groups have arrived, the buses are cleared to go. Any students who have not been picked up when the busses depart at 3:00 p.m. will ride the bus back to school and can be picked up there.

To ensure student safety we encourage NO end-of-day change of plans on your student’s ski day. An email will be coming home Monday with your transportation plan choices from your permission form.
